3 meet records on opening day

Three meet records were set on the opening day of the Amway 67th West Bengal State Athletics Championships at the SAI complex on Thursday.

Calcutta: Three meet records were set on the opening day of the Amway 67th West Bengal State Athletics Championships at the SAI complex on Thursday.

East Bengal's Chandan Bauri clocked a record 21.7 seconds to win the men's 200m (U-20) event. Another East Bengal athlete Pijush Goldar set a record in the 2000m with a timing of 5:53.4s in the boys' U-16 event.

The third record went to Mamoni Ghosh of Malda DSA, who won the under-18 girls' javelin with a throw of 34.83m.

The championship has been reduced to a low-key affair after five of the state's best athletes - Swapna Barman (heptathlon), Lily Das (800m), Ruma Sarkar and Himashree Roy (both 4x100m relay) and Debashree Majumdar (4x400) - were unavailable because of the national camp for the 22nd Asian Athletics in Bhubaneswar from July 6. who arrived in the city this morning from Malda with her mother,
