Calcutta, March 10 :     It wasn?t time yet for celebrations, but there was no mistaking the quiet optimism that has flowed into the East Bengal camp after today?s emphatic win over Mohun Bagan. And there was anger too. ?We were definitely not given a fair deal during the Goa leg,? coach Manoranjan Bhattacharya told the media after the match. ?We had to play the three best teams (Salgaocar, Mohun Bagan and Churchill Brothers) in the space of five days. None of the other teams had to go through such a situation.? The lack of practice grounds in Goa (a problem that Mohun Bagan coach P.K. Banerjee also referred to) made it very difficult to keep his team at the top of their form, Manoranjan pointed out. He was also unhappy with the refereeing there, even hinting at bias. ?How is it that the Calcutta teams picked up so many yellow cards there while the others did not?? ?I?m happy for the boys, for they always tried their best in Goa even as they went through a lot of difficulties. Things will only improve from here,? he said. On Bhaichung Bhutia?s absence, Manoranjan said. ?I believe in the team game and individuals, how important they may be, are but cogs in the team.? He used the same argument to tackle a question on how much his team benefited in the absence of Chima. PK?s problems P.K. Banerjee did not know whom to pin the blame on. There are just so many things wrong in the Mohun Bagan ranks. He started by saying that the ?three big-bodied Africans made the difference? before harping on the fact that he does not have a team that can deliver. He pointed out that his players allowed too much space in the midfield, and that there was no effort from the wing-backs to use the flanks and join the attack. ?How could a five-foot-something lad nod in like that when both my stoppers are six-footers?? he questioned, referring to the Dipendu goal.
