New Delhi: Abhinav Bindra has been named as the chairman of a five-member review committee to probe the shooters' Rio Games debacle, but has recused himself from questioning them as he was himself a part of the team.

Putin's point

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has attacked the ban on his country from the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics as immoral and inhumane. Putin said that the "decision to disqualify our Paralympians is outside the bounds of law, morality and humanity."

Saina slips

New Delhi: Saina Nehwal has dropped four places to be No.9 in the latest world rankings while P V Sindhu remains No.10 despite winning a silver medal in the Rio Olympics. K.Srikanth gained a place in the rankings to be No.10.

US Open

New York: Indian youngster Ramkumar Ramanathan lost in the first round of the US Open Qualifiers, going down 5-7, 1-6 to Italian Alessandro Giannessi.

Solo suspension

Los Angeles: USA women's team goalkeeper Hope Solo has been slapped with a six-month ban from the national team for her comments during the Rio Olympics, in which she called the Swedish players "a bunch of cowards."

CFL match

Calcutta: United SC thrashed George Telegraph 5-1 in a CFL Premier Division A tie at Barasat Stadium on Thursday. VP Suhair netted a hat-trick and Eric Brown scored a brace for the winners.

ATK recruit

Calcutta: Spanish forward Juan Belencoso signed for Atletico de Kolkata on Tuesday. He has played for sides like Kitchee FC, Albacete Balompie, UB Conquense, CD Lugo and Cadiz CF.

Tie abandoned

Calcutta : Rain played spoilsport as the one-day match between India 'A' and South Africa 'A' was abandoned after 35 overs in the first innings.

Day/Night Test

Karachi: Pakistan and the West Indies will play a Day/Night Test in Dubai from October 13-17, making it the second ever five-day international match to be held under lights.
