Sdorica Sunset is unlike any game you have played before. Made by Taiwanese gaming company Rayark, it is the best-looking mobile game out there. But the heart of the game is the story and the world it draws you into.
Legend has it that the world was once pitch black and ruled by a giant dragon called Sdorica. All humans were its puppets but one brave human defeated the dragon. This freed all the humans but also made them mortal - their freedom cost them their immortality. A long time has passed since then. Now, some humans want to bring back Sdorica in order to gain immortality.
As soon as you start playing, you are thrown into this beautifully crafted world where you will meet over 30 characters and be a part of their adventure. The gameplay is unique but at the same time familiar to those used to the match 3 puzzle games. At the bottom of the screen there are orbs that you have to match. The top of the screen is a fight between your three characters and the enemies. The higher number of orbs you match, the larger the damage your characters will do. It takes time to get used to this but once you get a hang of it, it is a lot of fun to match the orbs and explore the different attacks of the plethora of characters.
The best part of the game is the graphics. The environment is painted beautifully in pastel colours. Every new chapter of the story you play takes you to a gorgeous new world, differentiated by its colours. The characters themselves are detailed, cute and have distinct personalities. From Pang the wandering tiger to Nova the puppet merchant, each character has a rich history and unique powers that will undoubtedly get you attached to them.
There are multiple ways in which you can play the game. You can be a part of the journey and complete the storyline or you can just explore the different regions. Limited time events give you access to special characters and special materials that help you in upgrading your game characters. You can also train to improve your level and understand your skills. The guild system allows you to create or join a group whose help you can take to navigate through the game or to just simply make friends.
VERDICT: Sdorica is not a very easy game to pick up. It can confuse you through the sheer number of systems it needs you to understand. The constant updates and the long dialogue between players also do not help the cause. However, if you get past the initial hurdles, you will be treated to one of the best-looking story-driven games on your mobile in recent times. I would rate it eight out of 10.
