Samsung is exploring its AI strength and has discussed its own generative AI model, Samsung Gauss, at the Samsung AI Forum 2023. Developed by the tech giant’s research unit Samsung Research, it has three tools — Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code and Samsung Gauss Image.
Samsung Gauss can run locally on devices and rumour has it that the model will be integrated into the next Galaxy S24 handset, expected in early 2024. The South Korean company has showcased how the AI model can generate and edit images, compose emails, summarise documents, and operate as a coding assistant.
And there is more: The company has previewed what it calls “a new era of Galaxy AI” coming to its smartphones and offered details about a forthcoming feature that will use artificial intelligence to translate phone calls in real time.
AI Live Translate Call will soon give users with the latest Galaxy AI phone a personal translator whenever they need it. Because it’s integrated into the native call feature, the hassle of having to use third-party apps is gone. Audio and text translations will appear in real-time as you speak, “making calling someone who speaks another language about as simple as turning on closed captions when you stream a show”. And the processing will take place on your phone.
Coming early next year, Galaxy AI will give millions of Samsung phone users something to cheer about.
