It’s time for the next generation of foldable phones as Samsung has announced its Galaxy Unpacked event for August 10. The folding phones from the South Korean company have given the industry a new way to look at smartphones and use case options.

The image included with the teaser confirms that foldables will be the focus, with a Galaxy Z Flip-shaped device acting as a “greater than” symbol. For a long time we have been made to think that smartphones should look a certain way — a rectangular slab that keeps getting bigger. With increasing screen size, users have struggled to fit these phones into hands and pockets but the increase in size hasn’t always translated into more productivity.

Samsung changed all that with its Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold phones. Though there have been tough moments early in the development cycle but Samsung has managed to come through and make the category a big success.

Since last year, the Fold hasn’t appeared experimental, helping people warm up to the idea. Further, concerns over durability and software issues have been ironed out and what we now get is a highly productive device with excellent software performance. Even though it runs Android, Samsung has made several changes to ensure the Fold comes across as friendly. In fact, we have come to a moment when some are asking an important question: Should we buy a traditional smartphone or should we take the plunge and get a foldable device?

New Galaxy Watches are also expected and it should have some major upgrades. According to industry experts, expect two new smartwatches with the high-end model probably called Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and it will have a more rugged design.
