One of the most well-known universal remote controls has reached the end of the road. Logitech has announced that it will discontinue its line of universal remotes called Logitech Harmony.

In a post on its support page, the company confirmed the long-rumoured news, but has also added that new and current users will not be affected. “We plan to support our Harmony community and new Harmony customers, which includes access to our software and apps to set up and manage your remotes. We also plan to continue to update the platform and add devices to our Harmony database. Customer and warranty support will continue to be offered,” said the post.

Logitech acquired Intrigue Technologies, the original maker of the Harmony remote, in 2004. Since then it has been contantly on the best-universal-remote-control list but the company has not released a new variant since the Logitech Harmony Express, which was launched in April 2019. In recent years, universal remotes have lost in popularity as streaming services built into the TVs and devices have done away with the need for multiple remotes to control a variety of AV equipment.

Meanwhile, the company’s business continues to grow as during the pandemic, more and more people have bought products to keep work from home going.
