Jajpur: Police on Tuesday arrested two youths for allegedly raping a minor girl at the industrial complex area of the district.
The arrested youths are aged 20 and 21 and belong to Ranagundi village, police said.
The case was registered on Monday after the girl's father filed a written complaint at the local police station.
According to the police, the 16-year-old girl, a resident of the same village as the accused, was alone at home on Sunday afternoon when the two accused entered the house and raped her in turns.
Then the accused allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequence if she disclosed the assault to anyone and fled.
After returning home, the mother found her daughter crying and bleeding. When she asked the girl, the latter identified the two youths who raped her.
The mother told her husband about the incident when he returned home from work on Sunday night after which the man filed a complaint the following morning.
"The accused, who belong to the same village and was known to the girl, raped her when she was alone at home," said investigation officer Manoj Kumar Panda. "The accused had threatened the girl with dire consequence not only her but also her family members if she disclosed about the sexual assault to anyone." A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act 2012 was registered.
The cops said the arrested duo had been produced before the local court after being medically examined on Tuesday. Later, they were remanded to judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected.
