Balasore, April 21: A 15-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a 35-year-old woman in the district's Dubasahi village on Monday.
The accused allegedly tied the legs and hands of the victim when she had gone to the backyard of her house.
When the woman raised an alarm, the accused fled from the spot.
Later, her husband found the victim lying unconscious on the ground with her legs and hands tied.
After rescuing her, he lodged an FIR with local police at Kamarda.
The victim's husband complained that the accused had threatened to kill her and also escaped with a pair of earrings.
The victim was administered first aid at a local health centre and later shifted to district headquarters hospital.
The police have registered a case under sections 376/511 (attempt to rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 379 (theft) and 307 (attempt to commit murder) of the Indian Penal Code and investigation has begun.
During investigation, it was revealed that the accused was a distant relative of the victim's family and used to visit their house.
Yesterday, the incident occurred when the victim's husband was away and no other family members were present.
"The accused is a juvenile and he is being medically examined. After medical examination and interrogation, he would be produced before the juvenile justice board," said officer in charge of Kamarda police station B. Barik.
