Annual day
Tiny tots of Merry Babes School in Bhubaneswar presented a spectacular show on the occasion of the school’s 10th annual day celebrations. The students from playgroup to Class I danced to a number of delightful songs.
An exhibition of drawings by students was also displayed on the occasion.
Students, who excelled in various events in the last academic year, were awarded on the occasion. The students and their parents got a chance to hear from the invited guests, including former army officer major general Soumendra Dev Mohanty, retired administrator Aniruddha Rout, councillor Harish Murmu and former headmaster of Government High School Nityananda Lenka.
Students felicitated
Meritorious students of Srimad Bhagwad Gita Vidya Mandir were felicitated at an event held at the school recently. Teachers awarded the students, who had been selected in various Olympiads and scholarship tests. The objective was to encourage them and motivate others to do well, a teacher said.
Odia girls honoured
Nisitha Pattnaik, a student of Bhubaneswar Kalinga Nagar DAV Public School, has stood first in an all-India essay competition held on the occasion of the World Agroforestry Congress.
She received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a certificate of merit from President Pranab Mukherjee at a event held recently in New Delhi.
Nisihta wrote a 3,000-word essay on “Trees for Life”. Boys from Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh ended up second and third in the competition.
Another girl from the state, Bidyasha Harichandan, a student of Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, came second in an all-India drawing competition held on the theme “Tress for Life”. She received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a certificate of merit from the President. Girls from Tamil Nadu and Gujarat bagged first and third prizes in the drawing competition.
Students from 18 states took part in the essay and drawing competition, organised by the Indian Society for Agroforestry.
New record
Kola Sarathi, 16, a student of Municipal Barracks High School in Berhampur, has set a new record in weightlifting. She lifted a total of 157kg, including 71kg in snatch and 86kg in clean and jerk, in the 50-kg category at the 59th State Schools Weightlifting Championship held at the Weightlifting Hall in Berhampur Stadium.
