Bhubaneswar, June 18: The state government has planned for a three-day fest in collaboration with the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi to celebrate the World Music Day on June 21.
The authorities have decided to celebrate the occasion with the essence of Odissi music. Daylong activities have been scheduled on the day at Bhanja Kala Mandap.
A seminar on the state of Odissi music on the national and international arena will also be held. Music directors and singers from the state will come together to discuss the changing paradigms of music.
In the evening, a number of veteran singers from across the state will stage recitals highlighting the tradition of music in Odisha. Vocalists such as Lata Ghosh, Bijay Jena, Sangita Gosain and Minati Mishra among others will render performances in the musical evening.
A workshop has also been planned - where young artistes will get an opportunity to interact with veterans in the field. "There are certain elements in Odissi music - that are distinctive from other classical forms of music, and that is what makes it special. So, we took the opportunity to showcase the unique charm of Odissi music," said the akademi secretary Dhira Mallick.
The spirit of music will further be evoked at a confluence of various forms of Indian classical music brought together by young artistes and eminent gurus. On June 22 and 23, young singers and musicians from the state will perform. Artistes will bring to the fore various genres of Odissi music, including the tribal, folk, classical and the semi-classical ones.
Cultural enthusiasts will also get to hear bhajan and Odia songs based on intricate ragas. Renditions adapted from Jayadev's Geeta Govinda will also be performed.
Young artistes from eight states under the purview of the centre will present traditional music from their respective areas. Artistes from states such as Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand and belonging to the age group between 22 and 35 will present a taste of their music at the fest.
