Krishna Cricket Club to host the 4th Krishna Cup Cricket Tournament, 90 children take part in football festival at Sundargarh Stadium

About 90 kids attended a football festival for boys and girls organised at Sundargarh Stadium recently. Sanjukta Tirkey, Sima Tirkey, Manjushree Patel, Romancha Bhaishal, Hemanta Das and Ignesh Barla conducted the event under the supervision of Durga Prasad Swain who is the grassroots development officer in Odisha. SAIL Football Academy, a premier football academy of the country, conducted a talent search programme in Cuttack recently in association with the Football Association of Odisha.
New team
Odisha Soft Tennis Association recently announced the state team that will take part in the 11th Junior National Soft Tennis Championship to be held in Madhya Pradesh from February 8 to 12. Manash Ranjan Singh and Krishma Kisan will lead the boys’ and girls’ teams respectively while Md Azam has been appointed coach. Both teams will have nine members each. Kunal Biswal from Odisha has been appointed the umpire for the championship.
Cricket stars
Krishna Cricket Club is set to host the two-day 4th Krishna Cup Cricket Tournament at Bhubaneswar from February 11 to 12. The tournament will be held in two categories - senior and interschool. About 16 senior and eight school teams will take part in it. This apart, the third National Raghuvanshi Cricket Tournament concluded at Barabati Stadium recently. Mumbai defeated Saurashtra by eight wickets to lift the trophy. Leeds Sporting Club emerged champion of the Oxford Trophy Cricket defeating Rameswar Sporting Club by 113 runs at Berhampur Stadium.
Ace shooter
Odia rifle shooter Shriyanka Sadangi won one gold and two silver medals in InterShoot, a shooting championship held at Hague in Netherlands from February 1 to 4. She bagged two silver medals in the 10m air rifle women individual event by scoring 248.9 and 246.9 points. Sadangi along with Sajjanara, Meghana Mallikarjun and Namrata Arora won gold medal in the women air rifle team event by scoring 1241.9 points while Sadangi's individual score was 412.4 points.
Girls’ big feat
Odisha rowing team has bagged seven medals and was adjudged the first runners-up in the 35th Senior National Rowing Championship in Madhya Pradesh. The medals include three gold, two silver and two bronze. The seven-day championship had two categories - 2000 and 500metres - with four events each. While Sanjukta Dung bagged the gold medal in the 500metres category, Meena Madhuri Toppo and Manjula Xess won gold in the 500metres double scull event.
New stint
Nishan Jyoti Mohanty from Odisha has been appointed umpire for the 54th All India Veer Singh Judev Memorial Hockey Tournament 2017 and All India Rajmata Vijya Raje Scindhiya Hockey Tournament for men and women. The tournament will be held at Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh from February 7 to 15. Mohanty was a judge in Coal India Hockey India League Tournament at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar recently.
Bodybuilders
About 50 bodybuilders and youths from various gyms and clubs took part in Mr Bhubaneswar held on Utkal Karate School campus on Sunday.
Shaktibrata Nayak of Tushar gym won the 55kg category while Subhakant Mallick of BMC gym won the 60kg category. Pramod Swain, Pupun Swain, Satyaranjan Behera, Dharama Sethi, Mustaqil Ali and Ashirbad Behera were champions in various weight categories. Mustaqil Ali was adjudged Mr Bhubaneswar. Hariprasad Pattnaik of Odisha State Good Health Organisation was felicitated at the event.
