Sambalpur, Feb. 24: Reorganisation of wards of the newly formed municipal corporation has been notified.
The corporation's deputy commissioner S.S. Bhoi said the city would have 41 wards. Of these, six each have been reserved for other backward classes men and women, five for SC women, four for SC men, three each for ST men and women.
The state government had announced to accord the status of a municipal corporation to Sambalpur in 2013. The formal notification was issued in November last. Sambalpur is one of the oldest municipalities of the state constituted in 1867. The corporation has been formed consisting of the Sambalpur Municipality, Burla NAC, Hirakud NAC, besides villages of 12 gram panchayats adjoining Sambalpur town.On January 15, the housing and urban development department issued a draft notification regarding the reorganisation and reservation of wards. Suggestions and objections were also sought from the residents.
'As the final notification regarding the reorganisation of wards has already been issued, the dates of the election for the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation will also be declared shortly. Residents of the city will get the opportunity to elect their representatives,' said resident Tarani Panigrahi.
