Balangir: Criminals on Monday night robbed a student of Rajendra College here of cash and valuable documents.
The attack comes barely a month after an assistant professor of the college was attacked by goons. Sambit Panda, an inmate of the college's postgraduate hostel, apprised the principal of the incident before lodging a formal complaint at Town police station.
Students on Tuesday sat on a dharna in front of the administrative building to protest against such attacks on students and teachers on campus. They withdrew their protest after the cops arrived and intervened.
On January 27, some criminals had brutally attacked the Rabi Shankar Pandia, assistant professor of commerce, that had invited widespread concern over the safety of teachers and the students. The attack on Pandia was a fallout of his strict warnings to some goons who were found habitually wandering on campus.
Sources said that the incident took place around 9pm on Monday when Sambit, a Plus Three final year student, was on his way to a nearby eatery to have dinner. Two unidentified goons suddenly attacked him and took away his mobile phone and wallet in which he was carrying his Aadhaar and an ATM card, apart from some cash.
The attack on Panda has gripped students, especially hostel inmates, with panic.
"We feel unsafe, especially in the evenings as outsiders throng the hostel area. They smoke and drink in the vicinity and there is no security arrangement to curb such acts. We demand a police outpost on campus," said an inmate of the postgraduate hostel.
Town police station inspector-in-charge Gokulananda Sahu said they had registered the case. "We are probing into the incident. There will be regular police patrolling on campus," he said.
On Tuesday, principal Bijaya Kumar Jena, along with some teachers, surveyed the campus and found bottles of liquor and cough syrup and country liquor pouches from different parts on the campus.
