Bhubaneswar, Feb. 23: Vigilance sleuths today conducted raids on the office and home of Nuapada divisional forest officer Sarat Chandra Panda following allegations of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
This comes two days after income tax officials raided Panda's home and office on charges of tax evasion and hoarding of cash.
"We obtained a court warrant after getting information about the IT raid on the officer. The search is on and we are making a list of his properties including bank fixed deposits, vehicles, plots and household articles," said additional superintendent of police, vigilance, Bhubaneswar, Judhistir Mallick.
The I-T officials conducted raids after Panda failed to explain deposit of huge amounts of cash during the demonetisation period.
In a related development, the anti-corruption wing has also appealed to the court seeking five days of remand of IAS officer and managing director of the Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited Partha Sarathi Mishra, who was arrested after cash of Rs 2,14,750 was found from his official vehicle hundred meters away from his office at Khapuria in Cuttack.
The officer was also found possessing movable and immovable properties worth more than Rs 5 crore. Mishra was today produced before the special vigilance court here after completion of his two-day remand period following which he was sent to Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack.
Vigilance sleuths said they had traced a flat at Mumbai in the name of the mother of the IAS officer.
"We are investigating any other irregularities committed by the IAS officer during his tenure at the OSIC," said a vigilance official. The anti-corruption wing of the of state police found the IAS officer was visiting foreign countries such as US, UK, Canada and the Netherlands frequently.
The search team found as many as 42 imported perfumes along with several Indian made perfumes.
The team found as many as nine high-end watches during the search operation.
About 52 pairs of expensive jeans, 73 branded shirts and 32 branded coats were also found in possession of the officer.
