Sambalpur, May 5: Police have imposed restrictions on traffic movement to facilitate construction of the flyover connecting Dhutrapara with the Head Post Office.

The cops are diverting vehicles coming from Laxmi Talkies Chhak to Church Chhak through Modipara Chhak Road. Commuters, who had to travel just 1.5km, now have to travel around 3.5km to reach Laxmi Talkies Chhak via the new route. However, no restrictions have been imposed on the vehicles travelling towards Laxmi Talkies Chhak from Church Chhak.

"The restriction on vehicular movement remains in force from 8am to 9pm. We have deployed adequate traffic personnel at Laxmi Talkies Chhak to implement the restrictions properly," said town police station inspector-in-charge P.K. Sahu.

Residents have also welcomed the headway in construction of the flyover. Primary work on the flyover had begun in March.

"The flyover is essential. It will resolve the traffic problem at the busy stretch. At present, the commuters have to negotiate the heavy traffic snarl at Laxmi Takies Chhak throughout the day. The problem will be over once the flyover comes up. I am happy that work on the project has begun," said local resident Gaurav Pradhan.

The public works department is executing construction of the flyover at an estimated cost of Rs 62 crore.
