Bhubaneswar, Nov. 3: The development authority has asked the Utkal University of Culture management to reply within seven days how far it has complied with the objections raised regarding a building plan.
President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the administrative building and hostels on the new campus at Madanpur on the city outskirts on November 30.
When the registrar applied for the building plan approval in August 2010, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority asked the authorities to seek no objection certificates (NOCs) from the public health department and the fire prevention officer, indicate location of borewell for drawing ground water in the plan, show the drainage system on the campus in it and arrange for a police outpost on the campus.
In February 2013, the university authorities were sent letters, but they did not reply. Again on October 21 and 28, the development authority wrote two letters, seeking clarification and the compliance status, but in vain.
Planning member of the development authority Pitabash Sahoo wrote a letter to the university on November 1, asking them to inform about their compliance.
The construction of the new campus is under way at Madanpur on 45 acres. The Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (Idco) is looking after it.
Varsity registrar Suman Das said they had got the letter.
“We have got the building plan approval from the development authority. However, they had asked us to comply with certain norms, which we followed. We are going to inform them about the status,” said Das.
The construction of hostels, along with the administrative block, is over.
The two-storey block has been built at a cost of Rs 6 crore.
“After the President inaugurates the administrative block, we will start shifting our office and other things from the current location at Unit-II to the new campus. Though the construction of the academic block is not yet over, all classes can be accommodated there,” said the registrar.
The university that came into existence in 1999 has been running from the Sardar Patel hall complex at Unit II in the city. At present, over 700 students study here.
