Bhubaneswar, May 29: Even though the results of quite a few degree colleges are yet to come out, various universities of the state have got the ball rolling for another season of postgraduate admissions.
Ravenshaw University in Cuttack has already started the sale of application forms, which will continue till June 18. Like last year, forms will be available only on the varsity’s website – www.ravenshawuniversity.ac.in. One has to click on “Admissions 2012” to be directed to the postgraduate admissions page.
After filling up the form and submitting it online, the applicant has to take a print out of the form and attach important certificates required for admission and a demand draft for the course selected with it.
“The application fee for regular courses is Rs 160. For the self-financing courses, the fee is Rs 400. So far, we have received 2,000-odd forms,” said convenor of Ravenshaw admission committee Luna Samant.
The entrance exams for the 18 regular and seven self-financing courses will be held from June 27 to 29. “Admit cards for the entrance tests will automatically be generated once the applicant submits the form online,” she said, adding that test scores will have 60 per cent weightage in deciding the entry of a candidate.
The results are likely to be declared by July 7 and will be followed by admissions soon after. First-year degree classes are expected to begin from the second week of July.
The admission process of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, is likely to commence from the first week of June. For the first time, the varsity had decided to go ahead with online admissions for the coming academic session. Last year, Utkal had received more than 8,000 forms, but this time, the authorities are anticipating the form sale figures to double.
“With online admissions, more number of students will be able to apply to us. We are hoping to receive about 15,000 forms,” said chairman of PG council of the university P.K. Sarkar, adding that a 24-hour helpline number will be set up to respond to queries of applicants.
He said a uniform fee has been fixed for application forms at Rs 400 – an increase of Rs 50 from last year. The university offers 27 postgraduate courses in arts, science and commerce streams while another 20 self-financing courses are also run on the campus.
Sambalpur University, on the other hand, had started the sale of application forms from April 30. The last date of issuing and submitting the application forms is May 30.
However, it has been recommended to extend the deadline to June 9. “So far, we have issued 1,491 application forms for the regular courses and 144 forms for the self-financing courses. We are hopeful that the last date of issuing application forms will be extended so that more students can apply,” said chairman of PG council of Sambalpur University Sarat Kumar Acharya.
The entrance examination for various courses is scheduled to be held from June 23 to July 2. A student can obtain the form for Rs 200 at the office of the chairman of the PG council. One can also download the application forms. For admissions to the Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, forms will be available from June 1 and the entrance tests are likely to be held in the first week of July. The results will be out in a week. The students would have to take entrance for all courses except the self-financing ones. Classes would begin in the last week of July or August first week.
Forms for the Berhampur University are already available online on the varsity website www. bamu.nic.in since a fortnight. The last date for applying is June 18. There is no entrance test and the admissions are done purely on the basis of academic career record.
