Cuttack, Nov. 27: Malgodown police have arrested a youth for allegedly abducting and raping a Plus Two first-year student of a premier city college.
The accused has been identified as Mir Mohammad Taufiq, 22, of Bari area. He has been charged under sections 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 368 (wrongful concealing or keeping in confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Besides Taufiq, his friend Sk Safiq, 23, of Soro village was also taken into custody for allegedly abetting the crime. Both the accused were arrested from Balasore yesterday evening and have been produced before the court on today.
The police said Taufiq had allegedly lured and abducted the 16-year-old girl while she was travelling alone in a train on November 19.
The girl, a native of Kendrapara district, stays at a private mess in Cuttack.
The girl had left the mess and had boarded the Falaknuma Express after she had an argument with her parents over telephone. The victim’s father works as a contractor in New Delhi, while her mother was staying alone at Kendrapara.
“During her train journey, the victim met the key accused, Mohammad Taufiq, who took her to one of his relative’s place in Bhadrak and raped her there for five days,” said inspector in charge of Malgodown police station Bimal Barik.
However, Taufiq claimed before Balasore Court that he had married the girl. The police have produced him, along with his friend, before the court today evening.
The police said that the victim’s uncle, who stays in Cuttack, had lodged a complaint after they failed to trace the girl on November 20.
In the FIR, the girll’s family members have alleged that she had contacted one of her friends from another passenger’s mobile phone. The victim had then revealed that she had left Cuttack and was travelling alone in the train.
