Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: Women of all ages came out in large numbers to celebrate the Raja festival that concluded on Saturday, while special prayers marked the observation of Id across the state.
"This was an opportunity for all of us to gather and celebrate our state's popular festival," said Manisha Jena, a college student.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Naveen Patnaik also greeted those celebrating the festival.
Swings form a major part of the festival and households put up hammocks in their balconies or verandas. Young girls, decked up in new dresses and jewellery, engaged in traditional games such as puchhi and kabaddi. A number of cultural festivals were also held across the state.
On the other hand, the twin cities observed Id with much enthusiasm as thousands of people thronged mosques and hosted feasts. The 24 mosques in Bhubaneswar remained packed, resonating with prayers. The prayers were offered in 30 masjids and idgahs in Cuttack.
Qadam-e-Rasool managing committee president Ramjan Khan said: "This sacred festival marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan and also to the month-long fasting."
Around 6,000 people offered mass prayer at Qadam-e-Rasool ar Dargha Bazar and nearly 12,000 people offered mass prayer at the Idgah at Sati Chaura.
"The Idgah at Sati Chaura has special significance. It allows the Muslims to offer prayer even at 10.30am. So, there is more rush there as those who fail to make it since the morning try to offer prayer by that time," Khan said.
Baiyalish mauzah resident Sk Kalimullah said: "We believe that fasting throughout the month of Ramzan gives us a chance to win over our vices."

Many people wore new clothes, exchanged gifts with their loved ones and various delicacies were prepared to mark the occasion.
Sutahat resident Zakir Hussain said: "The day following closure of the month of Ramzan is celebrated as Id by eating something sweet the first thing in the morning." Sweets and traditional desserts were also distributed and served among friends, family and to the needy as a gesture of sharing and partaking happiness and good luck in the twin cities.
Balasore, Rourkela, Berhampur and other regions of the state also joined the festivities on the occasion.
