Sambalpur, May 30: Sambalpur Doordarshan Kendra has bagged two national-level awards for two documentaries — Pakshi ra nida and Paschimatal. The documentaries were awarded by the National Doordarshan Kendra.
Union information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni gave away the awards on Saturday at the Doordarshan Barshik Puraskar programme held in New Delhi.
“Though Sambalpur Doordarshan Kendra is a small station and does not have much modern equipment, we have done our best to produce two excellent documentaries,” said Padma Lochan Das, executive producer at the Sambalpur Doordarshan Kendra.
“The Sambalpur Doordarshan Kendra is the oldest station in Orissa. This is not the first time we have been awarded. Last year, Aljhat, a Sambalpuri play of this station, got the award for the best teleplay. This year, we won two awards. Also, this year, one of our documentaries Sabuja bana sabuja sapana (green mind green action) has been short-listed for the Unesco award for science reporting and programming,” Das said adding that the government has a proposal to make the station digital.
“We want to bring the culture and art of western Orissa to the national level. People should know our art, culture and tradition. Paschimatal has been based on the Sambalpuri folk dance and music. In that documentary, we have displayed 14 instruments used in Sambalpuri folk dance. The documentary is of 26 minutes. Four dance groups have participated in this documentary, which was directed by Ranjan Sahu,” said Das.
Pakshi ra nida is a documentary, which is based on the birds found here.
Surendra Mohan Pradhan researched on the birds, Das added.
“It took me three years to complete the documentary. This is a documentary of 30 minutes and in these 30 minutes we have depicted the nesting and breeding of 29 varieties of birds,” said Pradhan.
