Bhubaneswar, June 25: A travelling ticket examiner allegedly pushed a teenager off a running train near Barang on the city outskirts this morning for travelling without a ticket.

The teenager, P. Krishna (15), is now battling for his life at Capital Hospital with severe injuries.

The incident occurred around 6.30am today when the boy was returning to Cuttack from Vishakhapatnam on the Chennai-Howrah Coromandel Express. Krishna is a resident of Dolamundai in Cuttack.

Barang residents found Krishna lying unconscious near the railway tracks and bleeding profusely. They immediately informed the nearby police station.

Krishna was subsequently rescued and rushed to Capital Hospital.

The railway authorities, however, denied the allegation and hinted that Krishna might have jumped off the train himself after seeing the ticket checker. However, the Government Railway Police have initiated a probe into the incident.

Lying on the hospital bed, a teary-eyed Krishna told The Telegraph in a choked voice: "The travelling ticket examiner came to me and wanted to see my ticket. When I said I didn't have one, he searched my person. When he didn't find the ticket, he asked me to pay the fine. I didn't even have any money to pay as fine. He grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and took me to the door of the train. There, he suddenly pushed me out of the train. I don't remember what happened after that. I opened my eyes to find myself lying on this hospital bed and writhing in pain," he said.

Railway Police Force personnel who were with Krishna at Capital Hospital said that he had recorded a statement with the Government Railway Police mentioning that the travelling ticket examiner had pushed him off the train.

A senior official of East Coast Railway said that a case had been registered and the Government Railway Police of Bhubaneswar were looking into the matter.

"The Government Railway Police has already made inquiries both on the train and also at various stations. But, none of the passengers in Coach S 10, in which the boy was travelling, were aware of the incident," the official said.
