Bhubaneswar, Oct. 29: Seven students of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya were issued compulsory transfer orders today for their alleged role in an incident of campus violence on August 8.
Two students and three teachers were injured in the incident.
“Seven students, including a girl student, were denied entry into the campus today. The hostel superintendents have also been asked to oust the accused students from the hostels,” said college principal Tamasarini Dasmohapatra.
The decision to transfer the students was taken by the department of tourism, under which the college operates.
The department had set up a six-member committee to probe into the campus violence of August 8. The decision was taken on the basis of its recommendations.
Dasmohapatra said that the students could take transfer certificates and studies in any other general college.
On August 8, drama department students ransacked the college demanding removal of a particular guest teacher accusing him of “poor performance” and “objectionable behaviour”.
A senior faculty member of the college, however, said that the parents of these students were issued letters seeking explanation on why disciplinary action should not be initiated against their wards for the incident. But there was allegedly no reply from their side.
“We had even asked the students to submit a declaration form saying they would not get involved in such incidents in future. But, none of them submitted the declaration,” said the faculty member.
