Sambalpur, May 8: Three urban primary health centres will be set up in the municipal area under the National Urban Health Mission to provide quality health service to residents of the city.
One health centre will come up at the Janardan Pujari maternity care centre located at Golbazar.
The health mission will take over the centre that is being managed by the Sambalpur Municipality. The maternity care centre, however, will continue to function from the same place.
The second centre will function from the building that houses the urban family welfare centre at Ainthapali.
The third centre will operate from the primary health centre at Dhanupali. At present, it functions from a rented house. A new building will be built at Dhanupali for the urban primary health centre.
District programme manager of the health mission Anil Mohanty announced the decision of establishing these three centres.
“The Indian Pubic Health Standard has set guidelines and standards for the urban primary health centres. The standards will be adopted at these three centres,” said Mohanty.
“An operation theatre, a ward, labour room, required staff members, well-furnished out patient department (OPD), a laboratory and other facilities will be available for the patients visiting the health centres. The services will be provided round the clock,” said Mohanty.
“This will be a boon for the city residents. Thousands of people will benefit from the proposal. The city has expanded. More health centres are required to cater quality health service to the people here,” said local resident Binaya Debta.
“The residents are largely dependent on district headquarters hospital. But, there is an acute bed shortage at the health facility,” said another resident, Basanta Hati.
“However, the people can now avail themselves of the medical facilities at other places of the city after the proposal of the three health centres is materialised,” said Hati.
