Keonjhar, Jan. 29: At least three persons died and eight others injured in a road accident on the NH-215 in Keonjhar district today.

The mishap occurred near Suanpada in the district when a jeep in which they were travelling hit a stranded truck killing three persons on the spot on Saturday. The jeep was on its way to Keonjhar from Jajpur Road, police said, adding there were 10 to 11 passengers in the vehicle.

“The jeep hit the truck which was parked on the road from behind. The deceased are yet to be identified,” said a police officer. “They might be the labourers and perhaps going to their site,” he said.

The injured were rushed to the local government hospital. Later, four of them were shifted to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition had deteriorated.

The truck has been seized with its driver arrested. Police have sent the bodies for post mortem.
