Berhampur, Jan. 1:Police have arrested a second-year engineering student for alleged theft of mobile phones, costumes, LPG cylinders, utensils and others belongings of three students of Roland Pharmacy College.
The accused is identified as 22-year-old Manas Sahu.
'We have seized three mobile phones, one LPG cylinder, one gas stove, five bags filled with dresses and utensils from the rented house, where the accused had been staying since November,' said inspector in charge of Baidyanathpur police station Ajay Kumar Mishra.
'We arrested him yesterday,' he said.
The police said these articles had been stolen from a room at Saradhabali, where Pranay Kumar Panda, Sunil Kumar Patra and Soumya Ranjan Behera were residing. Manas broke open the door lock of the room and stole the articles on December 8.
The students lodged a complaint at the police station and suspected that Manas had stolen their belongings, the police said.
They also alleged Manas to have stolen all their educational certificates.
'Manas came to our room on December 8, when we were leaving for college. He told us that he wanted to repair a tablet. As we were getting late for college, we could not stay with him. Manas stayed back in the house, and it was obvious that he broke open the lock to gain access to our room and took away our belongings,' said Pranay.
The police said they kept a close watch on Manas and tracked his mobile phone after the three students had lodged the complaint.
'We summoned Manas to the police station for interrogation, and he admitted to the crime,' a police officer said.
