Jajpur, Jan. 8: Over hundred students of a government-run residential girls’ school have fallen ill, some of them seriously, after dinner.
They were rushed to block headquarters hospital at Danagadi, where 18 of them are still admitted.
Sources said 102 students of Kanyashram School at Baliapal were taken ill last night and brought to the Community Health Centre at Danagadi. “We were served pakhal bhat (water rice) and alu (potato) chutney yesterday. After sometime, I had severe pain in my abdomen and started vomiting,” said Nandini Sundi, a student.
It is a clear case of food poising, said Prodosh Kumar Mohapatra, medical officer of Danagadi community health centre. When asked why water rice was given during winter night, a district official remained evasive in his reply.
Jajpur collector Anil Kumar Samal met the children at the hospital and spoke to them. “I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and action will be taken against the errant teachers,” he said.
