Annual sports meet
The annual sports meet of Future Bhubaneswar School started on a high note on December 22. The mist and the chill failed to dampen the spirit of the young athletes who raced to win for their respective houses. March past by the participants stole the show. Principal Mathew Thomas unfurled the school flag and declared the sports meet open and exhorted the students to hold loft the torch of sportsmanship. He reminded the participants to give their best and not just fight to win. He urged them to compete in a healthy manner. Nearly 400 students vied for honours in 56 events and a sizeable crowd of parents witnessed the events. The winners were awarded with merit certificates and medals.
Euphony
The DAV Public School, Pokhariput, celebrated its two-day annual function 'Euphony-2014' on the school premises. More than 1,200 students participated in the event. The celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries followed by the school choir. Principal Sujata presented the annual report by enumerating the school's achievements and the latest milestones in all arenas.
The students, teachers and other staff members were felicitated for their achievements in scholastic and co-scholastic areas. A performance by the tiny tots, 'Samparkara Dori', a dance item by secondary students paying tributes to the Indian Army and 'Sammelan', a drama on female illiteracy, were some of the highlights of the event.
Christmas celebrations
Tiny tots of the Little Angels' School, Cuttack, took to the stage to celebrate Christmas by enacting a play on baby Jesus. 'It was wonderful to see the little ones playing shepherds and the three wise men from the Far East,' said principal of the school Novena Bothaju. The little elves also danced and swirled to the tunes of We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, Joy To The World, Dashing Through The Snow etc to mark the event.
Zest
The 40th annual athletic meet of BJEM School, Zest 2014, was inaugurated by director of sports and youth affairs Ananta Narayan Jena on Monday. Principal J. K. Mohanty urged the students to opt for games with true sporting spirit. The meet had 140 events apart from colourful cultural shows.
Golden jubilee
About 200 students from Cuttack The month-long golden jubilee celebrations kicked off at the Government Boys' High School, Unit-VI. An idol of Utkalmani Gopandhu Das was inaugurated on the occasion and blood donation and health camps were organised. Separate athletics meet was also held. Indoor games, including chess, carom and badminton, were organised besides an inter-batch cricket tournament. A marathon was also held during the inaugural function. The celebrations also included essay, debate, art, dance and music competitions for the students.
