Cuttack, March 5: Ravenshaw University has debarred six students from entering campus after being found guilty of involvement in inter-hostel violence three months ago.

The university administration has detained them and their hostel seats have been cancelled.

The disciplinary action against the students was related to a clash between boarders of Lalitgiri Hostel and New Hostel on last November.

Three of them have been detained for four consecutive semesters and the others for two consecutive semesters. Their hostel seats have been cancelled till December 2018 and December 2017 respectively.

"The action was taken on Friday after examining their explanations, personal hearing and CCTV footage," university official Gyanranjan Swain said.

The three students detained for four consecutive semesters are Md Asfak Ali, Ajay Behera and Srinu Kumar Patra of the information technology management, political science and sociology departments.

The three students detained for two consecutive semesters are Srikanta Mallick, Vishal Biswakarma and Trailoknath Upadhaya of the political science, commerce and English departments.

"Their studentship shall be suspended during the period. They shall not be allowed on the university premises during their period of detain," Swain said.

The varsity administration also found 10 other students involved in the clash between residents of the two hostels. "But keeping in view their degree of involvement, they have been given warning letters for now," he added.

According to a university statement, they are Prasanna Kumar Soren (economics), Sar-thak Sahoo (commerce), Bibhu Kalyan Dibyajyoti (ITM), Sidhartha Agarwal (commerce), Pratik Dixit (commerce), Arindam Mishra (chemistry), Sudhansu Sekhar Jayasingh (commerce), Rashmi Ranjan Gantayat (ITM), Soumya Ranjan Swain (history) and San-deep Subhadarshi (commerce).

On November 21 last year, a clash broke out between the boarders of Lalitgiri Hostel and New Hostel on the campus. Three students were injured. The university authorities had conducted an inquiry into the incident following which the decisions were taken on Friday.

The official said the probe took more than three months because there were allegations and counter-allegations from both sides. The inquiry committee gave the students of both groups the opportunity to put across their versions. The CCTV footage was examined and statements of faculty members were also recorded.
