
Paradip: A student of a Bhubaneswar-based private technical education institute was swept away by mighty waves of the Bay of Bengal off the coast here near the Nehru Bungalow tourist spot on Wednesday.
Local marine fishermen, however, were able to rescue a friend of him who was also being swept away by the sea waves.
The deceased has been identified as Himanshu Rathore, a native of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, while the survivor is his friend Srinath Shankar Ghosh, a native of Durgapur in Bengal.
Ghosh is undergoing treatment at the Paradip Port Trust Hospital and has been stated to be out of danger.
The tragic incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the victims were bath in the sea. The bloated body of the deceased was later fished out by the rescuers.
"The body of Rathore has been sent for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered," said additional superintendent of police Bishnu Charan Mishra.
