Bhubaneswar, April 6: Around 50,000 students from the state appeared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)- Mains examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today.
Students aspiring for BTech and BArch seats in various colleges of the country appeared for the examination. Apart from minor disturbances at a few centres, the exams passed off with no major untoward incidents.
This is the first time that the students appeared for JEE (Mains).
Until last year, admissions into engineering and architecture colleges in the state were done through Odisha Joint Entrance Examination.
CBSE officials said that some students did not bring copies of their admit cards of Class XII examination, which they were supposed to produce at the examination centre. Such students were allowed to take the test only after giving written undertakings to the authorities.
The students and parents entered into altercation with the authorities as they could not immediately arrange the photocopies. However, the students were allowed to take the exams after submitting an undertaking.
In Odisha, students appeared for the entrance from 90 centres in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Balasore, Bhawanipatna, Jeypore and Angul. While the offline tests ended today, the online tests will be held on April 9, 11, 12 and 19, respectively.
The JEE (Mains) exam will be followed by the JEE (Advance) examinations that will begin from May 25 for admission into the IITs, NITs and other centrally funded institutions.
The first 1.5 lakh candidates clearing the JEE (Mains) examinations would be eligible for JEE (Advance) examinations for which the registration of candidates will begin from May 4 and end on May 9.
The JEE (Main) 2014 scores will be out on May 3 and the all-India ranks will be declared on July 7.
