Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday hoped for a full turnout for the first ever match of Indian Super League (ISL) to be hosted by Odisha at Kalinga Stadium.
Jamshedpur FC will take on Bengaluru FC on February 25 in the top professional soccer league of the country.
Sports secretary Vishal Dev said that the infrastructure-related works for the match had almost been completed. "The Kalinga Stadium is being revamped and upgraded following the standards of ISL regulations. New dressing rooms have been created for the players. Match-playing and practice grounds have also been redeveloped. Additional bucket seats have been put up as well. A dedicated area is also being developed for players and match officials. We are proud to bring the JFC home match to Bhub-aneswar," said Dev.
Tata Steel, the owner of Jamshedpur FC, has adopted Kalinga Stadium as its second home ground after Jamshedpur. While the stadium area will be under the control of the franchise owner, the state government will make other arrangements such as promotion and security for the match. The franchise owner has hired a Delhi-based agency to develop the playing area for the match.
Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania, who was also present during the news meet, said tight security arrangements have been made for the match.
"All preparations have been made in the stadium and its surroundings according to the ISL standards. We thank the sports-lovers of the state for co-operating with us in maintaining law and order during the recent sports events," said Khurania.
"We hope that JFC would be well received and accepted by the people of Odisha and would get the full support of the people of Odisha," said managing director of Tata Steel special economic zone Arun Misra.
