Bhubaneswar, April 1: The e-despatch website of the state government has undergone a makeover in the last two months with attractively designed pages. But that is just one part of the story, because the departments are still not updating information relating to their activities on the website.

The Telegraph had reported the issue on January 12 this year soon after the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) stopped postings on the site.

An official engaged in the e-despatch site maintenance said the earlier page designs were not attractive and the new design is user-friendly. In the newer version, options for users to find out how many offices are working under a department are only a few clicks away. The letters despatched and received by various offices are also on display.

"This will help people to find out the required documents by mentioning the letter number or searching under the appropriate head," said the official. He said the new designs would motivate the authorities to use the site for the free flow of information and to maintain acute transparency in governmental processes.

Secretary, science and technology, Surendra Kumar said: "The process needed time as well as expertise. We are working on it and it will come into effect very soon."

General public and RTI activists blamed government officials for their apathy to use modern technology.

"When the government is promoting the use of technology, its own officials are refraining from using it," said Subrat Senapati, an RTI activist.
