Market Building

The market remains crowded every evening, but with festivals round the corner, it is packed like sardines. One can get almost everything here and therefore it has remained one of the champion crowd puller. “We offer best collection and at an affordable price. All the items at our store are latest keeping in mind the changing fashion trends. As far as the sales are concerned, it is gradually picking up,” said Rajinder Singh, managing partner, Kalamandir. “The best part about this place is that one can bargain a lot. One can find both branded and non-branded clothes and footwear here. Moreover, you also have the BMC Keshari Mall in the vicinity that further gives us options,” said Chaitali, a freelance content writer.

Janpath

When you think of brands, think of Janpath. The stretch from Vani Vihar to Rajmahal Square has outlets of major brands lined one after another. Some of the major shopping outlets are Meher's, Panda Lifestyle, Pantaloons, Reliance trends, All That Jazz and Wills Lifestyle. Even the jewellery stores such as Khimji, Tanishq and Lalchand are on this stretch. “Handloom saris are the most popular items of our store. We are offering a discount of 7.5 per cent to attract more customers.

This rush of buyers will continue till Diwali,” said Gauranga Patra, manager of Meher's. The Telegraph very recently spotted star couple Bobby Mishra and Koyel Banerjee Mishra shopping for Puja at Gruhasthii, a newly opened family store at Satya Nagar. Anup Mishra, 30, a corporate employee who works in Calcutta, has come to celebrate Durga Puja with his family. “I am looking for a good pair of sports shoes. Earlier I thought I will order it online, but I reckon buying things personally and charm of shopping during the festive season is a different feeling altogether,” he said as he walked into the Sree Leathers store at Ashok Nagar.

BMC Bhawani Mall

The usual footfall on weekdays is usually 3,500-4,000, but during the festivals, it crosses 5,000. “Generally, half of the crowd that visits the mall comes to watch a film at INOX. Rest half comes to shop at Brand Factory and other outlets,” said Sandeep Singh, the mall manager. Being the biggest mall in the city, it houses all the luxury apparel brands. The mall, along with Pal Heights at Jayadev Vihar, also happens to be one of the favourite hangout zones in the city. Santosh Kumar Das, 35, a businessman, and his wife Lopamudra Dhal, 32, a schoolteacher, were seen strolling from one store to another on Saturday. “She has bought kurtis and salwar suits, while I have bought some round neck graphic T-shirts,” said Das showing his paper shopping bags.

And elsewhere

The just-concluded Cotton fab exhibition left city shoppers spoilt for choice. The ongoing Silk expo at Hotel Marrion and diamond jewellery exhibition by Aapki Sakhi at Sandy’s Tower, are adding to the options for the consumers.

I have been to a number of places but I always love the collection of Pantaloons. It's not only different but also eye-catching. I have bought a lot of printed trousers along with monochromatic tops. I have bought a lot of clothes for my sister as well

I have been shopping since last week and I am nearly done. I am a quick shopper but selecting clothes during Puja can be a little tricky. I have shopped from the Market Building. My bag includes a lot of casual tops and I just cannot wait to wear them now

Archana Patnaik, engineering graduate

I have bought a lot of saris. I love chiffon and Banarasi silks. My shopping cart
includes a lot of palazzos and printed pants for my teenaged daughter. I loved the collection at Bhawani Mall
