Bhubaneswar, June 9: Raja, one of the major festivals of the state, is knocking on the door giving women plenty of reasons to let the shopaholic in them free. Malls and clothing stores are also raining offers.
The shopping spree began around the first week of June when malls and stores started offering discounts and special offers. A popular mall in Kharavela Nagar, for instance, promises cash back offers and a chance to meet actress Archita Sahu on certain purchases. Garment stores are giving discounts between seven per cent and 30 per cent on salwar suits, dresses and saris.
There are also exhibitions at which saris and kurtis are available at affordable prices starting as low as Rs 200. Accessories are also a big hit at these fairs.
“We come here every year at least a month before Rajo. The sales are high and people from all economic classes find garments for themselves and to gift their relatives on the occasion,” said Yousuf from Uttar Pradesh at a makeshift shopping market at Saheed Nagar.
“Most of us ensure we have a wide range of bangles, ear rings, and other accessories along with garments since they are in demand at this time,” he said.
“We buy saris and dresses for ourselves and our relatives for Raja. To get the best deal one has to visit as many stores as possible” said Kavita Pradhan, a corporate employee.
