Cuttack: Police arrested a notorious gangster, involved in the attack on Bijay Kumar Pal at the behest of Sushant Dhal Samant, after a late-night encounter on Sunday.

The cops also recovered a 9mm pistol, four live rounds and two empty cartridges from Sada Naik. Sada had fired at the cops when the police team began chasing him.

Singh said Sada, a resident of Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar, was wanted in connection with a firing case. Sada had accompanied Miku Nayak, who had fired at Pal in Sadar police limits on February 23. Miku was arrested on Saturday.

The police said Sadar police station inspector-in-charge Debadutta Kar and assistant commissioner of police Nimai Charan Sethi were tipped off about Sada's presence around the Kathajodi embankment at Srikaruan.

Accordingly, sub-inspector Krupasindhu Barad along with staff members and a special squad proceeded to apprehend him. When the police team approached him, Sada started running.

He then opened fire at the police team during the ensuing chase. "Luckily, the bullet missed Barad by a whisker," the police said.

"When he was about to fire the second round, the Barad fired back from his service pistol, aiming below the waist, and hit his left thigh," Singh said.

Consequently, the cops nabbed him and admitted him to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

This was the police's ninth encounter in less than six months as they continue to crack down on criminals.
