Berhampur: Police have begun a probe into the case of a missing collection agent of HDFC Bank, Bishnu Prasad Gouda, who has been missing for eight days.

Berhampur sub-divisional police officer Prabhat Routray, who is leading the probe, said: "His wife, Narmada, and family members who met Berhampur superintendent of police Pinak Mishra on Saturday suspect that he has been murdered."

Gouda, from Bania village in Khallikote police limits, had set up a medicine shop near a private clinic at New Bus Stand. "During this time, he had developed an affair with a nurse working at the clinic. After a few months, Gouda started working as a collection agent for the bank. But he frequently visited the clinic to meet the nurse for which there were exchanges with the doctor at the clinic," Routray said.

The cops have interrogated the doctor, nurse and the doctor's driver separately.

Narmada said Gouda left for Berhampur on August 18. "He must have visited the clinic as his mobile phone and Rs 30,000 in cash in a wallet were recovered from near it. His other mobile phone has been switched off since then. When I asked the doctor and the nurse to show me the CCTV footage of the clinic, they said there was no power supply that morning and the CCTV was switched off. I suspect that the doctor and the nurse kidnapped and killed myself or have confined him," she said.

Narmada had lodged a complaint with BNPur police after he went missing.
