Kendrapara: Uncertain future stares at 160 students who were admitted in the district's lone Adarsha Vidyalaya at Tarando village.
Admitted in the government-run model school after a tough entrance test, the students and their guardians have remained a confused lot as the school building is not yet ready for teaching.
The academic session is scheduled to commence next month. However, the construction of the school building is still going on.
The meritorious students from government-run primary schools have opted for Adarsha Vidyalaya for qualitative classroom teaching and better academic environment. The Adarsha Vidyalayas are also being regarded as modern school on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas on the CBSE pattern of study. With high expectations, parents and guardians have enrolled their wards in the school. But, they don't know when the construction of the school building will be completed, said a retired primary school headmaster Abani Mohan Mohanty.
"We have visited the school building site. Sizeable portions of the building work are not finished yet. It will take at least one year for the entire work to complete. On the other hand, the classes are scheduled to start next month. We have been told that the school will function elsewhere on a temporary basis. My ward is felling let down," said a guardian who did not want to be named.
District education officer Udaynath Majhi, however, tried to allay their fears.
"Guardians need not worry as construction is going on in full swing. We expect it to be completed in six months. Till then, classes will be held at the Government High School."
