Cuttack, Dec. 10: State vigilance department has registered cases against four officials of Cuttack Municipal Corporation in connection with the alleged misappropriation of relief materials meant for the cyclone Phailin affected people in Cuttack.
Officials said that cases have been registered against erstwhile Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra, deputy commissioner J.M. Kujur, deputy secretary Nirmal Nayak, and recovery officer Bijay Das.
“We have registered cases against four officials for violating the relief ,” said a senior vigilance official.
The official further said that the cases were registered against the four officials on Monday night based on the report of the revenue divisional commissioner (central division) in connection with the misappropriation of relief materials in October.
Earlier, the state government on October 21 had ordered for a probe and had transferred CMC commissioner Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra, while deputy commissioner J.N. Kujur was placed under suspension in connection with the incident.
Later, simultaneous raids were also conducted on the residence of 29 councillors, who had reportedly taken away “excess quantity” of relief materials that were meant for the distribution to the cyclone Phailin affected victims in the city.
Besides the four officials, the role of 29 councillors, including 22 belonging to the BJD, is also under scanner.
Sources said that the anti-corruption department might also register cases against the 29 councillors for alleged loot of relief material.
