Sanskrit gets a launch pad

Central University of Odisha in Koraput

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 23: The Central University of Odisha, Koraput, is all set to launch a new masters programme in Sanskrit from the next academic session.

The decision was taken at the 20th executive council meeting of the university presided over by vice-chancellor Mohammad Miyan.

'Sanskrit is a part of our rich cultural heritage and needs to be given importance in educational institutions. This is why we are launching the programme from the next academic session,' said Miyan.

The university has decided to invite senior scholars to develop the curriculum and structure of the programme.

'Earlier, the academic council of the varsity had approved the launch of a Hindi department in the university. A professor has already been appointed by the authorities,' said Miyan.

Initially, two-year MA course in Sanskrit will be launched. Later, research programmes will be introduced, said the vice-chancellor.

It must be noted that the North Odisha University is also going to start a PG course in Sanskrit from the next academic session. It is also planning to start a BEd course.
