Imphal: Manipur police arrested three Rohingyas from the border town of Moreh in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on Saturday evening.
Moreh police received information regarding the presence of Rohingyas from Myanmar at Muslim Basti, Moreh ward 5. The team, along with CID, Moreh, picked up the two Rohingyas suspected to be involved in trafficking, Md Saifullah, 34, and Md Salam, 25, along with a woman suspected to be the victim, from a rented house at Moreh.
The house belongs to Maulana Ahmed Hussain, 50, a resident of Moreh ward 2. The police said Hussain is in Chennai. Saifullah is a resident of Arakan district under Maungdaw police station, Baguna Nulafara, Myanmar and Ali is a resident of Arkan district under Teri police station, Butidong, Myanmar.
The woman was identified as Toiba Hatu aka Nargis, 20, of Maungdaw Baguna Mandila Bhara, Myanmar.
They told the police that they, along with Md Ismail, a resident of Mayang Imphal Bengoon, Imphal West, were involved in trafficking girls from Myanmar to different parts of the world.
A card issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and an Aadhaar card have been recovered from Saifullah.
No valid documents could be produced by Salam and Toiba Hatu. The three have been arrested and a case registered at Moreh police station.
Saifullah and Salam were arrested for trafficking while Toiba Hatu was arrested for not possessing valid documents.
Superintendent of police S. Ibomcha said the police were trying to find out by which route they came to India.
So far six Rohingyas have been arrested by the state police, including three others who were arrested on March 22 and been jailed, said the police officer.
He said the police have come across 10 immigrants possessing UNHCR cards in the state.
