Bhubaneswar, Jan. 20: Green patches in the city are set to get a fresh lease of life. The municipal corporation and the development authority have decided to invest Rs 1.68 crore to renovate six parks here.
The civic body will renovate four of these six parks with funds from the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme, while the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will take care of the remaining two.
The parks, which have been selected for renovation under the Amrut scheme, are located at Kanan Vihar (Rs 52 lakh), Sailasree Vihar (Rs 51 lakh), Niladri Vihar (Rs 32 lakh) and Dumduma (Rs 6 lakh).
"We have submitted a project proposal to the housing and urban development department to develop a few parks in the city. After a recent deliberation on the Amrut scheme, we have decided to develop the four parks at the selected sites," said deputy commissioner Srimanta Mishra.
Similarly, the BDA has invited bids for the renovation of N3 Park at Nayapally and IT-Joggers Park at Chandrasekharpur. The N3 Park will be developed for Rs 19 lakh, while Rs 7 lakh will be spent on IT-Joggers Park.
The four parks under the Amrut scheme will have separate children's corners, garden pathways, benches, yoga and meditation platforms, food courts and parking areas. However, the two parks that will be taken up by the BDA will witness only new horticultural activities.
"The N3 and IT-Joggers parks will be developed in a phased manner. We have invited bids from agencies ," said a senior BDA official.
To begin with, the BDA will carry out landscaping of the two parks.
However, it is yet to decide on the kind of facilities that the parks will have post-renovation.
The city administration has received Rs 113 crore under the Amrut scheme out of which Rs 1.4 crore will be spent on the development of parks. About Rs 106.76 crore will be spent on drinking water projects, while Rs 4.95 crore will be used for construction of a sewerage treatment plant in the state capital.
