Balasore, Sept. 15: Police today registered a case of rape and cheating against a 62-year-old man after a young woman lodged a case against him.

The accused is absconding.

The 26-year-old woman alleged that the accused, Bijayanandu Nayak of Jamudiha village under Nilgiri block, had been sexually exploiting her for more than a year.

Nayak had also threatened her to make their private pictures public if she didn’t pay him Rs 2 lakh.

The woman is separated from her husband and lives with her parents. Last year, she filed a case with the sub-divisional magistrate seeking relief from her martial dispute. The accused, who was known to her father, had then volunteered to help her in the case.

In August 2013, Nayak brought the woman to Balasore on the pretext of meeting advocates in connection with her case.

She alleged that at that time, he had mixed drugs in her cold drink and sexually assaulted her. Since then, Nayak has been repeatedly committing the crime and has also impregnated her. Later, he had even forced her to undergo an abortion.

Khantapara police have registered a case under sections 420, 376 (2), 379 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Inspector in charge of Khantapara police station Sankarshan Dalei said: “The woman has undergone a medical test. Her statement will be recorded in the court. The accused is, however, on the run. Investigation is in progress.”
