Bhubaneswar, June 15: Two women in the city committed suicide when their husbands refused to take them out on the occasion of Raja.

While 34-year-old Soudamini Mohapatra killed herself this morning by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in Kapilaprasad, 27-year-old Aliva Ananya Malia ended her life this afternoon by consuming poison at Kapileswar.

Soudamini stayed at a rented accommodation with her husband of 10 years and their two children. “She wanted me to take the family out for Raja today. But I did not agree to her proposal because I did not want my business to suffer. We had a quarrel over the matter and she hanged herself this morning after I left for work,” said her husband Pradip, a small time businessman.

In the other incident, Aliva’s husband Manoj Kumar Maila said his wife wanted him to take the family out for the Raja festival. But he refused because he had to work. “We had a quarrel over the issue following which she consumed poison. I rushed her to hospital, but she could not be saved,” said Manoj.

Aliva was declared brought dead by doctors at Capital Hospital. Her family members created a ruckus at the hospital accusing Manoj of forcing her to consume poison. They only calmed down after the police took Manoj in custody.
