Bhubaneswar, May 28: Radio lovers from diverse backgrounds are taking part in a summer training programme on radio jockeying, organised by a youth group here.
The 15-day-long workshop that began on May 15 aims to provide radio lovers, especially students and youngsters, with an opportunity to learn more about radio and its functioning.
The workshop is training participants on radio script-writing, live show presentation, pronunciation and modulation, outstation broadcast, radio news reporting and reading, listeners' interaction, dubbing and voice acting as well as public service broadcasting among others.
A number of radio personalities and academicians are attending the workshop to interact with students on various aspects of radio.
"A number of innovative programmes can be created using radio not only for entertainment purposes, but also to give social messages," said Mrinal Chatterjee, head of Indian Institute of Mass Communicant, Dhenkanal.
The participants will also visit radio stations and work on practical assignments in professional studios.
"There is no dedicated radio jockeying training programme in the state for youngsters, who want to make their career in this field. So, this workshop will definitely help them know more about the profession and radio programme production," said Subrat Kumar Pati from Outreach, the youth group, which is organising of the programme.
The group has been promoting radio in the state by organising various programs regularly. They host a radio fair every year and have recently launched an online radio channel, www.radiobhubaneswar.com, that focuses on live broadcasting of various events being held in the state capital.
Popular radio broadcasters, RJs, experts, homemakers and IT professionals took part in the workshop. "I have always been enthused by radio. I felt the workshop would help me to know more about the radio," said participant Dhanashree Mishra.
"At the workshop, importance is given on personality development and harnessing communication skills as well. Every participant will be given a certificate of participation at the end of the workshop," Pati said.
