Schools begin summer camps for students

Book on parenting

A book on parenting — You Can change Your Child's Destiny — authored by ODM Educational Group chairman and ODM Public School principal S. Minaketan was released on Friday. He said the book was an output of his 30-year experience in education and contained all the desired tips and skills to help children grow into perfect human beings. The author has tried to prove parenting both as a science and an art with very practical chapters such as the skills of caring for kids, relationship and communication, parents as the best teachers, roles and responsibilities of parents, nurturing positive attitude in children, fostering emotional intelligence, self-esteem, time management, decision making, and motivational tips.  
 
Chess camp

The Centre for Chess Coaching, under the guidance of the Ganjam District Chess Association, conducted a coaching camp and Ganjam District Students' Chess Championship at the DAV Public School, Gandhi Nagar, in Berhampur. The camp was conducted from May 4 to 6 and the chess championship between May 7 and 9. Ganjam District Chess Association president P.V. Ramana inaugurated the event in which 60 participants from different schools and colleges took part.

Focus on schools

The district administration laid special emphasis on strengthening the education system in Mayurbhanj during a meeting with media persons and education officers in order to streamline and strengthen government schools. District collector Vineet Bharadwaj, in his keynote address, spoke of the need to promote the schools with the help of alumni members and other generous people. For the development of a school, the desirous people, whether alumni or not, can donate either in kind or in cash, he said. People would be welcome to develop a laboratory, a gymnasium, a projector, an auditorium, a drinking water project, he added.

DAV event

DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, organised a summer camp from May 1 to 5 to encourage children and make their experience full of adventures and to expose them to a skills and develop their individual and team skill. Students took part in activities such as dance, music, yoga, arts & crafts, sports, and computer where they got scope to display their creativity. Experts such as dancer Harihar Das and others were invited to train the students. Principal-in-charge Mamta Banerjee appreciated the students’ vision, creativity and enthusiasm.

Summer camp

Vyasanagar Public School organised a summer safari camp at Jajpur under the chairmanship of principal Debasmita Sahu. Vyasanagar Municipality chairperson Sabita Rout inaugurated the camp. Events such as swimming, self defence, parasailing, aerobics and sand painting were taught to the participants. Among others, Jajpur Road Fire Station master Sorabh Rout, Manas Ranjan Mohanty and school president Bharat Bhusan Deo were present.

Modern facilities

A number of new facilities was inaugurated at Sivananda Centenary Boys' High School at the foothills of Khandagiri Hills recently. It was established in 1984 to commemorate the sacred memory of Swami Sivananda Saraswati Maharaj, the founder of Divine Life Society, Rishikesh . The school, started with a few asbestos buildings for class rooms and hostels, now has a prayer hall, kitchen and dining hall with all modern facilities, including a vast library, computer lab and science lab.
