Cuttack, June 17: Police officers have expressed hope that the state government will consider the demands related to their welfare.

The Odisha Police Association had recently submitted a 14-point charter of demands to chief minister Naveen Patnaik through the director-general of police.

"We have faith in the government. Yesterday, we were assured that steps would be taken to look into our demands," said association secretary Jyotiranjan Samantaray. The police body represents around 6,300 police officers in the rank of inspectors, sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors.

Yesterday, the home department called its members for a discussion on their demands under the chairmanship of additional chief secretary Asit Tripathy.

"The government announced that an in-depth study and scrutiny of all the demands should be made and appropriate steps would be taken to address them," said association president Satyajit Mishra.

The demands also included halt to direct recruitment of police officers in the rank of deputy superintendent of police in the Odisha Police Service cadre.
