Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for four sewerage projects worth Rs 1,111.56 crore here on Tuesday, his second visit to the state since last October.

Modi will launch the projects from Motihari, around 160km north of Patna. The four projects will include a sewage treatment plant with 60 million litres per day capacity and a sewer network spanning 376.12km in Patna.

Besides, three more projects are scheduled to start in Karmalichak, Digha and Kankerbagh sewerage zones for a 150 MLD sewerage treatment plant and 534.54km of sewerage network. Two of these three projects will be carried out in hybrid annuity-based public-private partnership mode.

Earlier in October 2017, when Prime Minister Modi came for the Patna University centenary celebrations, he had laid the foundation stone for four projects in Patna from Mokama.

These were Beur STP, Beur sewerage network, Saidpur STP and adjoining network and Karmalichak STP. The total awarded cost of these projects was Rs. 738.04 crore. They will create STP capacity of 140 MLD and lay 422.88 km of sewerage network in these sewerage zones of Patna.

Patna's sewage load is expected to reach 320 MLD by 2035. The above 11 projects in Patna worth Rs 3237.69 crore will create total of 350 MLD sewage treatment capacity and lay down 1140.26 km of sewerage lines. The expected sewage load for the city by 2035 is 320 MLD. Once these projects are completed, no sewage water from Patna will flow into river Ganga. These projects will ensure that no untreated water goes into Ganga in Patna and sewer lines reach every household in the town. Besides these, a total of 29 projects worth Rs 5042.11 crore are ongoing in Bihar under Namami Gange programme.
