Cuttack, Oct. 5: Groups from the northeast staged some poignant plays at the ongoing Theatre Olympiad at Shahid Bhavan in the city in the last two days.
Noted actor and director from Imphal Oken Amakcham was the centre of attraction.
The two plays staged on Wednesday were Chor Police Ra Khel and Soansirir Ghat.
Chor Police Ra Khel, presented by the artistes of Rangadeep, Guwahati, showcased the unholy nexus between thieves and police, middlemen and political leaders, which is responsible for all ills in the society.
The story revolves around a young politician, who decides to bring a change in the society. Gradually, with his political will and people’s participation, the movement spreads for a positive change in the region.
“All of us have an important role in the society and we must act and discharge our duties faithfully towards our nation. If each individual does his job sincerely, there can surely be a change in the society,” said G. Gautam, director.
The second play Soansirir Ghat by Navodaya Cultural Group, Nalbari, showcased the life of Monbar, who earned his living by sailing a boat on the banks of the Soansiri river.
Monbar’s dream to see his son Ranjan supporting the family was shattered after Ranjan was shot dead by a contractor. The play depicts the suffering of Monbar and also has a sub-plot of love and revenge.
The issues related to the suffering of people in Manipur were depicted on yesterday by the artistes of Juvenile Theatre Group of Manipur.
Amakcham directed the play Laidhi Lubak (Dolls in a Basket), which was presented in English. The story revolves around three girls playing with their dolls and how the latter subsequently gets transformed into humans.
