Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will take up "visible" development activities in the disputed Kotiya gram panchayat in Pottangi tehsil in Korpaut district within a year.

The decision was taken at an inter-departmental meeting presided over by revenue minister Maheswar Mohanty at the secretariat on Friday.

"The chief administrator of the Koraput-Balangir-Kalahandi (KBK) region will review the progress of development works there every month and ministerial review will be conducted every three months," said Mohanty.

The Odisha government is now undertaking various development works following the recommendations of the five-member committee headed by chief administrator of the KBK region S.P. Thakur ever since Andhra Pradesh officials stepped up welfare activities there.

A weekly market is being held near the Kotiya gram panchayat office every Wednesday since March 21 this year. The office of the revenue inspector is also functioning from the Kotiya inspection bungalow since February 19. Besides, the government will upgrade the Kotiya primary health centre to a 10-bed hospital.

An action plan has been prepared for construction of office complex to accommodate various offices, bank and post office and also staff quarters. Land will also be provided within a month for construction of the proposed police station there.

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has been requested to construct network towers to provide mobile phone connectivity to the region, while the Southern Electricity Supply Company (Southco) plans to electrify all the villages there by September end.
